ASSAD Scheme Launched: Volunteers Unite to Fight Against Narcotics

Thrissur: Government Engineering College Thrissur hosted a district-level training program for NSS Program Officers of Thrissur on February 28, 2023, as part of the joint venture of Social Justice Department of Kerala, Higher Education Department, and National Service Scheme State Cell. The program focused on the “ASAAD Sena” scheme, which aims to form an anti-narcotic task force on campuses comprising volunteers from the National Service Scheme.

Dr. Santhosh C, Asst Professor, NSS PO, College of Agriculture, Vellanikkara Thrissur, ASAAD Sena State-level trainer, welcomed the attendees. Dr. Ranjini Bhattathiripad T, the Principal of GECT, delivered the Presidential Address, and Mr. T. N. Prathapan, Member of Parliament, Thrissur, inaugurated the program.

The program also saw felicitations from various dignitaries, including Ms. Joicy Stephen, District Social Justice Officer in charge; Dr. Sony T. L, NSS Coordinator, University of Calicut; Dr. Sunny N. M, Coordinator ETI, University of Calicut; Dr. Iqbal V. M, NSS Coordinator, KUHAS; Dr. E G Ranjith Kumar, Director of Student Welfare and NSS PC, KAU; Mr. Pratheesh M V, DHSE, NSS District Coordinator, Thrissur; and Mr. T. V. Satheesh, VHSE, NSS District Coordinator, Thrissur.

The Asaad Sena program aims to create teams of 20 NSS volunteers on every campus. These teams will be trained to counsel students, promote legal awareness and communication skills, and guide upcoming volunteers. The best member of each Asaad Sena team will receive honors at the campus, district, and state levels, and certificates will be awarded to them.

Dr. Rajesh P, NSS Programme Officer of GECT, delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the program. The Asaad Sena scheme has been launched as part of the “Bodha Poornima” campaign of the Higher Education Department, which aims to eradicate narcotics from campuses. This program has been instrumental in creating awareness and training volunteers to tackle the issue effectively.
